Cloverfield

Poster - Cloverfield

Woots! Just came back from GSC 1U after watching a midnight screening of Cloverfield with Nic, Roy, Faz & gang..

I was already pretty hyped up from the viral Internet marketing campaign that preceded this, having a gut feel that this is going to be a movie like no other. I mean, a Hollywood and JJ Abrams (of Lost fame) production that doesn’t even bother to spend on huge billboards, radio adverts, and TV ad slots? It’s no wonder more than half the people I spoke to haven’t even heard of the movie before.

But guys, through word of mouth alone, I assure you, this movie is going to TAKE OFF like a rocket.

The entire movie is shot from the perspective of a shaky handheld camera, detailing the experiences of a group of friends as they experience the intense chaos of an attack by some unknown monster. It was done in such a way that was completely riveting and immensely immersive. It takes suspension of disbelief to a whole new level. The acting and script was believable enough for me to easily imagine what it would have been like to be there with them.

There is no dramatized orchestrated soundtrack. There is no focus on stunts or details. It’s all just happening as it unfolds, and once it hooks you, it never lets go. Watch this in a theater with a THX sound system, and every amplified unseen boom, shudder, scream & footstep will seal your experience completely.

For a completely implausible plot, this is as real as it gets. Go watch it!!

Aftermath? It hasn’t even begun…

“Did you hear that?”

One of the cooler moments :P

P.S. : Keep an eye out for something falling out of the sky (and crashing into the sea) at the last part of the film just before the credits. I hope you’re alert enough to catch it. I know I didn’t, but I’m certain I will be watching this again, even if its on DVD. :)
For those who want an even more complete experience, wait until the credits roll till the end, and listen to some vague audio recording. I won’t divulge any further - there’s plenty of discussion about what it is online. :)

u should have seen how restless and stressful i was thru out the 75min of the show !~

but i didnt stay until after the credits…………..*dammit*
can u fill me in ??

haha.. restless and stressful - that was a good thing i hope?

I understand the dizziness hehe.. motion sickness. Guys who play lots of first person perspective games are kinda immune usually.

SPOILER ALERT

After the credits end, there is a voice clip that mumbles something like “Help Me”.. but when recorded and played backwards, it clearly says “It’s Still Alive..” :D

that’s why i can never play CS !
ehehhehe
